| Defect | Due to a manufacturing defect, an electrical connection within the vehicle’s starter generator may not have been assembled to specifications. This could cause a sudden loss of power whilst driving. In addition, a faulty connection may also generate excessive heat, which could lead to a vehicle fire. A sudden loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property. |
| Remedy | Owners of affected vehicles should immediately contact their preferred authorised BMW dealer to check the affected components and if required replace the starter generator and associated wiring harness, free of charge. |
