DefectIn the engine control unit, due to an inappropriate control program, when a malfunction occurs in the variable valve mechanism (CAMTRONIC) and cylinder deactivation is activated, the air-fuel ratio correction control is not stopped, contrary to design intent. As a result, the catalyst overheats due to increased fuel injection, melting surrounding parts, which can cause the engine to stop, and in the worst case, lead to a fire.
ComponentEngine (Engine Control Unit)
RemedyFor all vehicles, rewrite the engine control unit's control program with the updated program. Additionally, check the condition of parts near the catalyst for damage and replace them with new ones if necessary.
