DefectIn the belt-driven starter generator (BSG) belt tensioner, due to improper manufacturing control, some units may be missing the internal component, the damper pad. As a result, repeated tension maintenance operations of the belt during use can cause rattling, leading to internal damage to the tensioner, loss of belt tension, and illumination of the hybrid system warning light. If driving continues, the BSG may stop operating, battery charging will cease, and in the worst case, the vehicle may become unable to drive.
ComponentStarting device (belt-driven starter generator belt tensioner)
RemedyFor all vehicles, check the lot number engraved on the BSG belt tensioner. If it matches the affected lot numbers, replace it with a good BSG belt tensioner and replace the belt with a new one.
